LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., March 23, 2017– With slides and swings, rock walls and bike racks, some Winter Park children recently received the play space of their dreams thanks to the hard work of more than 150 Disney VoluntEARS and community residents.

The Disney-funded KaBOOM! playground – the 75th nationwide and the 11th in Central Florida – gives more than 700 children and their families in the Winter Park, Florida, residential complex of Golden Oaks a safe play environment that will cultivate healthy lifestyles and inspiration.

Since 2011, Disney has collaborated with KaBOOM! as part of The Walt Disney Company Healthy Living Commitment to create healthier generations by making healthy living fun and simple in the communities where Disney Cast Members live, work and play.

“Our work with KaBOOM! promotes active and healthy lifestyles in the communities we serve,” said Kevin Callahan, vice president of Community and Engagement, Corporate Citizenship for The Walt Disney Company. “Ensuring the happiness of kids is at the heart of what we do, and through our work in 75 communities, we are proud to help give kids the childhood they deserve through play.”

The younger residents of Golden Oaks came together in January to help design their wanted play area. Then on March 17, Disney VoluntEARS joined others in bringing their vision to life, and transformed an empty lot in their housing complex into a vibrant family gathering area in less than six hours.

KaBOOM! has been dedicated to building playgrounds across America with the goal of ensuring that all kids get the balanced and active play they need to thrive since 1996.

“When you think of Disney, you think of the joy they bring to kids,” said James Siegal, CEO of KaBOOM!. “Working with Disney over the past 10 years has made a tremendous difference in the lives of countless kids and families. Our partnership shows that when organizations connect, communities can be transformed.”

Being a good corporate citizen is a time-honored Disney tradition. Through contributions, collaborations with local organizations, in-kind gifts and volunteering, Disney helps to brighten the lives of kids and families in need and strengthen communities around the world.
