Disney VoluntEARS show their heart with more than $1.4 million for charitable organizations and nonprofits

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., July 14, 2017 – Acts of kindness come in many shapes and sizes. From spending one hour to help a child learn to read to a day spent cleaning up a stretch of coastline, the efforts of Disney VoluntEARS added up to create a big impact for individuals and communities throughout Central Florida last year.

As a result of the time Disney VoluntEARS spent helping make a difference in the lives of Central Floridians, more than 500 nonprofit organizations received more than $1.4 million through Disney’s EARS To You grants.

“The commitment, devotion and passion of Disney Cast Members has made such a difference for the Central Floridians we serve,” said Dave Krepcho, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “We are so proud to be among the organizations selected by Cast Members to receive their support.”

More than 1,500 Disney Cast Members were recognized with an EARS To You grant for their acts of in 2016, which totaled 190,584 hours of community service. Based on the number of hours volunteered, individuals earned grants ranging from $100 to $2,000 for an eligible organization of their choice.

“Walt Disney World Cast Members truly have extraordinary hearts,” said Nancy Gidusko, director of Corporate Citizenship. “The EARS To You grants earned by our Disney VoluntEARS showcase how many seemingly small acts added up to a really big impact for our community.”

For more than a decade the Walt Disney World Resort has recognized Cast Members’ acts of kindness with EARS To You grants. In addition to the individual contributions of Disney Cast Members, last year Walt Disney World Resort helped strengthen local children and families with nearly $33.9 million in cash and in-kind donations given to Central Florida nonprofits and charitable organizations.
